Vanguard Packaging was founded in 1975 as a poly bag distribution company. In 1979, the company began manufacturing a variety of corrugated packaging products. The growth of the corrugated product line ultimately forced the closure of the poly bag line by the early 1980's. In the mid 1990's, the company added high graphics packaging and point-of-purchase displays to its product line.
The addition of these product lines forced a commitment to state-of-the-art equipment in both the design and manufacturing area. These equipment upgrades include the areas of structural design, direct flexo printing, ink and color control, label laminating and folding and gluing. This technology jump along with the long-standing edict for quality products also created the need for properly trained and educated personnel. Our equipment and training allow us to meet the exacting standards required for the point-of-purchase market.
In 1996, Vanguard Label was founded by Mark Mathes to manufacture and distribute pressure sensitive labels. In 1998, Vanguard Label added the manufacturing of spiral wound paper tubes and cores to its manufacturing base. All of the products manufactured by Vanguard Label were added to enhance the product lines offered to customers of Vanguard Packaging.
In January of 2007, Vanguard Packaging was purchased by Mark Mathes thus bringing both companies under one ownership. In March of 2007, Vanguard added an office in Bentonville, Arkansas to its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Kansas City and the sales and design office in St. Louis, Missouri.
Today we design, manufacture, assemble, fulfill and distribute a wide variety of corrugated packaging, point-of-purchase products, pressure sensitive labels and spiral wound paper tubes and cores to a national customer base. The tubes, cores and the corrugated packaging are distributed primarily in a 300-mile radius of Kansas City. The founder of Vanguard Packaging remains active as Chairman and the founder of Vanguard Label is President and CEO of both companies.
To achieve our success, we combine an attitude of excellence in everything we do while attempting to run the most cost effective facility possible. Our daily decisions must answer two questions. Do our actions create excellence and value for our customers? Do our actions promote profitability for the company? Neither can exist without the other.
We recognize that our greatest assets are our customers and our employees. We exist because of them and they are to be treated with dignity and respect. This environment of dignity and respect will nurture individual and team excellence, which in turn improves, and nurtures company growth. It is our promise to strive daily to be the best we can be for our customers, our employees and our community at large.
